An asymptotic, one-dimensional Green-Ampt model is derived for infiltration into a soil whose surface is impermeable except for regularly spaced vertical cracks, and infiltration into a cylindrical soil column whose top surface is also impermeable except for a central hole. The model is valid at times when the wetting front has become horizontal and corresponds to one-dimensional infiltration initiated from a plane lying above or below the soil surface, depending on the crack spacing/depth ratio (or column radius/hole depth ratio). When applicable, asymptotic Green-Ampt solutions are shown to agree well, in selected cases, with corresponding finite difference solutions of the saturated-unsaturated flow equations.  相似文献

Butyltin concentrations have been measured at eight freshwater sites (rivers and lakes) in the Norfolk Broads, UK, during 1986 and 1987. Tributyltin (TBT) was found in water samples from seven of the sites. Wherever TBT was present, dibutyltin and (usually) monobutyltin occurred. Levels of TBT exceeded 100 ng dm?3 in open stretches of both the Rivers Bure and Yare in 1986 and 1987. The highest concentration of TBT recorded for Wroxham Broad (a shallow lake) was 898 ng dm?3. Values of up to 3.26 μg dm?3 were measured in water samples taken from a marina. A depth profile for Wroxham Broad showed TBT to be uniformly distributed throughout the shallow water column. The results are discussed in relation to toxicity of TBT to freshwater organisms. Laboratory measurements of the degradation of TBT in freshwater from a marina gave a half-life of six days at 20°C in the light.  相似文献

Analyses of fish and other environmental samples (clams, macrophytes, sediments and waters) from areas upstream and downstream from two alkyllead manufactures beside the St Lawrence and St Clair Rivers, Ontario, show a clear indication of elevated alkyllead levels in samples near the industries. Most species of fish contained alkyllead compounds with tetraethyllead and triethyllead as the predominant forms. Most fish from the contaminated areas contained 50–75% of total lead as alkylleads. Carp, yellow perch and white sucker were generally the most contaminated species while pike, alewife and rock bass were the least contaminated. Average alkyllead levels varied from year to year but declined steadily after 1981. For example, the geometric mean of alkyllead compounds in carp from the St Lawrence River decreased from 4207 μg kg?1 in 1981 to 2000 μg kg?1 in 1982 and to 49 μg kg?1 in 1987, reflecting the reduction of alkylleads in the effluents and the closure of one of the manufactures in 1985. Alkyllead levels were consistently lower in muscle and carcass samples in comparison with whole fish containing fatty intestines. However, muscle levels were generally equal to carcass levels. The concentrations of alkyllead compounds were generally low in clams, macrophytes, sediments and waters except from the immediate vicinity of the manufactures' final effluent discharges.  相似文献

A systematic study of the biomethylation of selenium and the determination of the methylated species indicates preliminarily that selenium is susceptible to natural biomethylation under certain environmental conditions. Detectable levels of methylated selenium species, including dimethyl selenide [(CH3)2Se], dimethyl diselenide [(CH3)2Se2] and dimethylselenone [(CH3)2SeO2] have been detected by gas chromatography – graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry (GC – GF AA) from a variety of environmental samples. Findings of naturally methylated selenium species from both soil samples and related air samples suggest that there may exist a localized cycle of selenium between ground soil and the ambient air. Factors that influence the sensitivity and accuracy for the determination of alkyl selenide compounds by GC – GF AA have also been investigated. Flashlike injection mode and addition of about 10% of hydrogen gas to the argon carrier gas provide for highly sensitive detection. Reproducible determination can be obtained with a precision of about 6% and the detection limits are 0.3 ng Se m?3.  相似文献

Measurements were made of T1 of bound water (T1b) and bound water fraction () for gelatin solutions and human tissues (sera, brain tumor, cerebral white matter). Bound water fraction in each sample was measured by means of thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry: DSC). T1 values were measured by FONAR QED 80-. T1b values were calculated by an equation derived from the fast-exchange two-state model. In the study of gelatin solutions, the relationship between T1 and water content differed depending on the sort of solutions. This was considered to be due to differences in T1b values. In each biological tissue the values of T1b and had different distributions. These results indicate that values of T1b and for biological tissues may be altered in correspondence to the changes in pathophysiological states in those tissues.  相似文献

The light-oxygen effect consists in a direct excitation of molecular oxygen dissolved in aqueous media of biosystems by the light; it provides the possibility to use lasers for therapeutic purposes. The wavelength of the used light should strictly correspond to the oxygen absorption bands. However, laser therapy also makes use of lasers emitting at 0.89 μm (outside the known oxygen bands), which suggests the action of a new photoreceptor. Here we argue that this mechanism of photoreception is a modification of the light-oxygen effect involving the absorption of photon simultaneously by the oxygen molecule and O-H stretch of the H20 molecule of liquid water.  相似文献

Phase inversion refers to the phenomenon whereby a small change in operational flow conditions causes an oil-in-water dispersed flow pattern to suddenly switch to a water-in-oil flow pattern, and viceversa. This paper proposes an interpretation of phase inversion in terms of minimal dissipation rate. To this end, the dissipation rate is computed by a simple homogeneous model together with available correlations for effective viscosity in dispersed flows. It is shown that the data available in the literature can be reasonably interpreted as a manifestation of minimal dissipation rate. Furthermore, if the assumed effective viscosity correlations take into account pipe wettability, the minimal dissipation rate approach is capable to interpret also the so-called ambivalent range (hysteresis effect) and correlate the available data.  相似文献

Amphiphilic ABC miktoarm star terpolymers consisting of polystyrene, poly(ε‐caprolactone), and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) arms, PS(‐b‐PNIPAM)‐b‐PCL, were synthesized via a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization, ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), and click chemistry. Difunctional PS bearing an alkynyl and a primary hydroxyl moiety at the chain end, PS‐alknylOH, was prepared by reacting azido‐terminated PS with an excess of 3,5‐bis(propargyloxy)benzyl alcohol (BPBA) under click conditions. The subsequent ROP of ε‐caprolactone using PS‐alknylOH macroinitiator afforded PS(‐alkynyl)‐b‐PCL copolymer bearing an alkynyl moiety at the diblock junction point. Target PS(‐b‐PNIPAM)‐b‐PCL amphiphilic ABC miktoarm star terpolymers were then prepared via click reaction between PS(‐alkynyl)‐b‐PCL and an excess of azido‐terminated PNIPAM (PNIPAM‐N3). The removal of excess PNIPAM‐N3 was accomplished by “clicking” onto alkynyl‐functionalized Wang resin. All the intermediate and final products were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, and FTIR. In aqueous solution, the obtained amphiphilic ABC miktoarm star terpolymer self‐assembles into micelles possessing mixed PS/PCL cores and thermoresponsive shells, which were further characterized by dynamic laser light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior of poly(N‐tertbutylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) (PNTBAM) in pure water and mixture of water–methanol is studied at different temperatures. The different compositions of PNTBAM are prepared by free‐radical polymerization technique and their phase behavior is studied by turbidimetry. The effects of copolymer and solvent composition on the phase behavior of the copolymers are discussed. It has been suggested that the inhomogenities in polymer chains are responsible for lowering the rate of phase transition by increasing the N‐tertbutylacrylamide (NTBAM) and methanol contents in copolymer and mixture, respectively. For the first time we have revealed that there are second‐order binary interactions in the water–methanol which are dominant in the special range of copolymer composition. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
